The Space:
In a tiny street in inner city Redfern - only a block from thriving restaurants, cafes & bars - the stoic exterior of this historic double-fronted sandstone cottage conceals a secret oasis. Behind the fire-engine red front door, the open plan living & dining area is framed by the exposed sandstone walls of the original 1860s dwelling. Mid-century modern furnishings & a collection of contemporary paintings, photography & objects d'art complement the sculptural beauty of the massive hand-cut stone blocks.

Across the old back doorstep, the light & airy modern addition of kitchen, bathroom & sunroom opens out to a sub-tropical 'desert-meets-jungle' wonderland. The showpiece is a jaw dropping 6m cactus stand, rising from a mad collection of palms, yuccas, succulents & an ancient tree fern. Set amongst the lush understory of cycads, ferns, bromeliads & orchids, monolithic reclaimed wharf pylons have been transformed into seating. This is no cottage garden (beware the magnificently thorny Madagascar palm!) prickles & spikes rule but the atmosphere is tranquil & the soothing trickle of water on the fishpond adds an extra layer of serenity to this unique urban retreat.

Back inside, the entertainer's kitchen rocks a slick retro Smeg 'Fab' fridge, 90cm Ilve stove (gas burners/electric oven), espresso coffee maker, Bosch dishwasher, Global knives, cooking essentials & core pantry items.

The sunroom is the perfect spot for a lazy brunch or romantic dinner for two. Relax with a cocktail at sunset & contemplate your personal oasis - at its most enchanted when lit up at night.

Next, check out the bathroom & imagine floating in the indulgent semi-submerged pebble lined tub - custom built for two. Double shower heads ditto. Bathroom bliss!

The staircase to the upper level rises from the dining area into a dramatic 2 storey void defining the original roofline of the cottage & featuring a skylight that floods the living space with natural light.

The highlight of the spacious air-conditioned master bedroom is the outlook provided by 16 square metres of floor to ceiling windows. Wake up to a panorama of towering cactus tops plus 180° of neighbouring gum trees, palms, jacarandas & abundant birdlife. Read, snooze, or just watch the day go by from the generous daybed, or Netflix & chill on a rainy day in bed with the 55" wall mounted LG TV.

If you must work, the adjoining mezzanine dressing room/study offers a desk for your laptop & home office use, also providing acres of storage for an army of suitcases if you're settling in for a longer stay.

Guest Access:
Guests are most welcome to enjoy the property.

For security purposes, check-in details will be emailed to confirmed guests 2 days before arrival for an easy smooth fast check-in. Kindly make sure you have submitted the security form with all the valid ID's of all adult guests staying so that you receive a seamless check-in experience :) For the home owners security, only guests who are listed on the security form are allowed access to the property.

The Neighborhood:
The setting here is so peaceful its hard to believe you're this close to the action - Redfern is a hub of social activity with loads of cool cafes, bars, restaurants & galleries within a few minutes walk. 5mins north to Chippendale's Central Park & Kensington St or 10mins to Sydney's latest hotspot Darling Square with its array of dining options & hot new entertainment precinct - right next to Darling Harbour & Chinatown. To the south Alexandria, Zetland & Rosebery. West to the Seymour Centre & Newtown's King St. Surry Hills is just next door, & beyond that the Entertainment Quarter at Fox Studios.

Getting Around:
Only 1 or 2 mins walk to a ton of cool local bars, cafes & restaurants or 10mins to the CBD & Circular Quay. Take a short stroll to a nearby bus stop or a 7min walk to Redfern Station for easy transport to anywhere you want to go. When its time to return to reality even the airport is only 15mins away - we hope you'll find your way back again soon.

Other Things to Note:
Parking is limited as its a tiny narrow street & time restricted for non residents. Public transport is a better option, trains & buses are easily accessible within a few mins walk. Alternatively Uber is great, taxis not recommended as they are too unreliable.

Please note that a copy of valid photo ID of all adult guests staying is required after booking. The management reserves the right to request photo IDs of all guests staying for security purposes. For the home owner's security, only guests who are listed on the security form are allowed access to the property.
