Occupying the entire second floor of the heritage Edwards & Co Ltd building, THE Second is a curated stay and creative residency in Sydney’s vibrant Surry Hills neighbourhood. Blending architecture, art and design, THE Second is an inspiring place to stay, create and gather. Both a premium short stay and a platform for established and emerging artists and creatives, the space blends vintage and contemporary interiors alongside a rotating gallery of original artworks.

As one of only five whole-floor residences in the building, the vast century-old loft is an inspired reinterpretation of the warehouse space into residential living by acclaimed Australian architect, Iain Halliday. Measuring 275 sqm, it features five-metre ceilings with direct lift access. Floor-to-ceiling windows are bathed in eastern sunlight and a mirrored wall enhances the sense of openness. A custom-built Carrara marble dining table with room for 20 seats anchors the open plan living space, while an Isamu Noguchi Akari installation and vintage Murano glass lighting bring warmth once the day settles. The mezzanine bedroom with ensuite provides the ultimate retreat from days spent exploring the Harbour City with a hidden media room tucked inside the original warehouse safe.

Not your typical accommodation, THE Second is a stay with gallery-like appeal. Here, every object exists intentionally – nothing is incidental. THE Second is not simply a place to stay but an experience devised to leave you with a deeper appreciation of design and thoughtful curation. Within the walls, you’ll find works by Australian and international designers and artists, including Tom Fereday, Jorna Newberry, Tanika Jellis, Sophie Vaidie, Chen Ping, Louise Roe and Henry Wilson, alongside a considered curation
from Studio Gardner.
