St. John's Anglican Cathedral is a rather unusual church with twin spires. The site on which the church stands has been used continuously for a house-of-worship since 1803. The foundation stone of the first church on this site was laid in 1799, during Governor King's term of office. It was the only church in the colony until 1809.

St Matthew's Anglican Church has quite rightly been called one of the most beautiful buildings in Australia. Designed by Francis Greenway, under instruction from Govenor Macquarie, the building is a landmark. The grave yard also makes for facinating viewing, with graves of several people who came out with the First Fleet.

The foundation stone of St Stephens Anglican Church was laid in 1837 with the first service held in the courthouse. St Stephens is the 14th oldest church still in use in Australia and is of gothic design. The trig location of Penrith is taken from the north west corner of the church tower.
