## Access

We offer our entire home while we are out of town so there are no off limit areas. Both beds are set up if needed and we supply hotel quality towels. There are a few cupboards we keep off limits for privacy.

## Interaction

We take a very hands off approach letting guests have as much space and privacy as they need. We give as much info as we can here on Airbnb and my support team will respond to messages.

## Neighborhood

Here are some of the many places to eat, drink and enjoy near our place.

Cafes
It is hard to have a bad cafe experience in Erskineville/Alexandria (let us know if you do). The possibilities are nearly endless and we have only explored a fraction ourselves.

These are our regulars:

Ella Guru, 104A Swanson St, Erskineville NSW 2043
Closest cafe - very friendly and good value. Toasted sandwiches a great quick lunch.

Meet Gerard, 54 Henderson Rd, Alexandria NSW 2015
Further to walk but our favourite by far. Excellent coffee and delicious breakfasts, cakes and sandwiches. If you need to get a train from Redfern Station (e.g. to go to Bondi Junction) then this is a good place to fuel up on caffeine on your walk to the station.

Restaurants
Again you’ll struggle to find a bad meal. There are a small number of restaurants along Erskineville Road which are all pretty good and if you venture to King Street...well you can have just about anything.

Here are the local places that draw us back again and again:

Maggie’s Thai 75 Erskineville Rd, Erskineville NSW 2043
Very unassuming, great value, and amazingly delicious thai food.

Deli o delhi 3 Erskineville Rd, Newtown NSW 2042
Super delicious indian food.

Fratelli Fresh Alexandria 52 Mitchell Rd, Alexandria NSW 2015
Lovely neighborhood Italian (although part of a small chain) with good pizza’s and a decent wine bar.

If you want something fancier (although slightly further afield), we can highly recommend:

Kindred, 137 Cleveland St, Darlington, NSW, 2008.
Great Italian with some of the best fresh pasta we have had.

Stanbuli, 135 Enmore Road, Enmore, NSW, 2042.
Classy modern Turkish; save room for dessert!

For the best ice cream in Sydney, try Cow and the Moon, 181 Enmore Road, Enmore, NSW, 2042. It is a half hour walk from our house - worth it in our opinion!

But if you want something closer, Gelato Messina is also very good. Closest Messina is 262 King Street, Newtown (about a 15 minute walk) and there are others around the city (e.g. Circular Quay).

Pubs and for a bit later
King Street and the rest of the city offers amazing places to have a drink and enjoy the night. Erskineville has a few very nice spots of its own ranging from suburban sports pubs to hip bars.

These are our picks:

The Hive Bar: Both cosy and cool, this is a great place for a cocktail or glass of wine. They do food too and have lunch specials.

The Erko: Our pick of the pubs. Good selection of craft beers and a great menu of burgers and other comfort food.

Sydney has limitless possibilities, so do look online if there are particular tastes and experiences you are after.

Things to do

For a proper list of things to do we recommend you consult a decent up to date guide book like Lonely Planet or of course online guides like timeout.com/sydney or concreteplayground.com/sydney.

Here are a few things to do that are easy from Erskineville and that we highly recommend:

Catch a ferry from Circular Quay and walk in nature with a view of the city:
It is very easy to get into Circular Quay on the train line from Erskineville then catch a quick ferry somewhere across the harbour - even as far as Manly for a great beach experience. We like to take a ferry to Cremorne Point, then walk along the coast to Taronga Zoo and ferry back (or go to the Zoo).

Go to one of the inner city independent galleries:
While many are drawn to the great collections of the National Gallery of NSW and the Museum, there are some amazing other galleries which are easy to get to from Erskineville including White Rabbit (www.whiterabbitcollection.org) and Carriageworks (carriageworks.com.au, where the Saturday market is held).

See a show in the open air:
There is a lot on in Sydney throughout the year and because of the warm climate it is great to see things outdoors. Check guides when you are coming but through the summer there is always Opera on the Domain (opera.org.au/sydney/opera-in-the-domain), and lovely outdoor cinemas even in Spring and Autumn (www.moonlight.com.au, http://www.stgeorgeopenair.com.au/).

## Transit

Getting there:
5 Ada Street is a short taxi or Uber ride from the airport. We are also a 5 minute walk from Erskineville Station. However, the airport train is about $18 one way (depending on times), so for two people it is often a similar price to take an Uber/taxi, unless you are in the middle of peak hour (around 7:30-9am or 4:30-6:30pm) when traffic is very heavy.

Public transport:
There a several train stations at a short walking distance: Erskineville (5 mins), MacDonald Town (10 mins), Newtown (10 mins) and Redfern (20 mins). From Erskineville Station you can take a train directly to Circular Quay and the harbour. You can also take the train to Central (two stops), which has connections to the airport.
We encourage you to get an Opal card from a newsagent of seven eleven (there is one just past the station on Erskineville road). This is a pre-paid card that is necessary for many trains and busses and can be used on all public transport including ferries (check fares here www.opal.com.au/en/opal-fares/).
On Sunday, all public transport (except to the airport) is capped at about $2.60 for the day - including ferries as long as you use an Opal card. There are also daily caps for other days and weekly caps (e.g. the weekday cap is close to $15). You don’t need to buy a special day ticket - the opal card will automatically stop being charged once you reach the cap (see www.opal.com.au/en/about-opal/benefits-of-travelling-with-opal-card/ ).

Parking:
Ada Street has very limited parking - 2 hour maximum limit. You may be able to find free all day parking in the surrounding streets (e.g., Park Street), make sure to check the signage.

## Notes

Here are few things to be aware of:

In most parts of Sydney - especially in summer - it is almost impossible to live completely free of bugs like mosquitoes and cockroaches. We have the house professionally cleaned before your stay and use repellents. However, since the weather suits having the windows and doors open, it is very difficult to completely rid a house of them. We have left some repellent, spray and mosquito coils but otherwise, we hope they don’t disrupt your stay.

Sydney can get very hot in the summer months. By keeping blinds down during the day (including the lightwell in the kitchen), and running the fan and leaving windows open at night, it usually stays a very pleasant temperature. There is aircon in the upstairs bedroom if you need it. Unfortunately some years we get a string of super hot days. We do hope the temperature is pleasant for you.

This is our home most of the year, so some things might be a little different to professionally run accommodation. We hope that the genuine homeliness and friendly neighbourhood will more than compensate. We take a hands-off approach to hosting, but don’t hesitate to contact us by phone or email (including via airbnb) if you need anything at all.
